After his father walks out, Ren
McCormack and his mother are forced to move from Chicago to the small town
of Bomont, where the spiritual well being of the community is overseen by
the powerful Reverend Moore. Ren is stunned to learn that dancing is
not permitted anywhere within the town limits, and frustrated by the
stifling environment he vows to 'take on this town', inciting his new
classmates to throw a dance. Ren's appeal for a town dance is rejected at the Town Council meeting, but his mother urges him to try again by speaking privately to Reverend Moore. The minister realises that he has let the death of his son overshadow his life and the lives of his parishioners, and announces that he has had a change of heart, and a dance might be a good idea. And so, for the first time in years the young people of Bomont are able to dance freely, and as everyone joins in, the evening becomes not only a celebration but also an expression of healing for the town, as 'everybody cut footloose!' |
